Rear View Mirror Vibration '95 SL500

Anyone have any ideas how to "tighten up" the rearview mirror in an SL500? The mirror seems "loose" where it connects to the pilon from the top of the windshield area, how do you remove the plastic cover that allows access to this "pilon" without breaking the plastic and after its removed, is there a way to eliminate the loose-play? The mirror itself is fine, just irritating to have the mirror vibrating when I look into it to check traffic.

Thanks, Steve

People have actually gone to the extreme of getting mirrors installed that mount to the windshield and gotten rid of the factory mirror as they are so expensive. The last guy who asked I offered to have him send it to me and have me repair it, I'd make the same offer to you. I've fixed a few of them. Sort of depends on what is broken, and if you aren't careful about it you'll make it worse or unrepairable.

Rearview mirror removal:SL500 '95?

How do you remove it? How is the cover for the "post" removed without breaking the plastic?
