On the earlier cars you can drain the torque converter and change the fluid in the pan and replace the filter, which is quite complete. You could compare it to changing the oil on the engine, no one recommends using a flushing machine on the engine, right? Because you get out 99% of the old oil, same on the older trannies.
On the later trannies, 722.6 and up, I wouldn't do that either b/c you'll probably get a bunch of the non-approved atf in it, plus I don't recommend doing a trans fluid change on those in most cases anyways.
