economy gauge
I just saw a car with an economy gauge in the lower left bottom of the dash cluster. It was on a 190e 1987 year. It's the first time I have seen one in the instrument cluster on a 190e. Anyone know why some would have this?

Haven't seen a W201, W124 or W126 without one - at least in my country.

I have owned 2 & neither one has had gauge. Could it have been with some kind of option? Actually none of the 5 Mercedes I have owned have had it. I have encountered it in Bimmers.

I've seen with and without, I think it is based on state regulations...Most have it included.
Be happy you have it...It helps you keep an eye on your foot.

Some 1970's/early 1980's G.M. cars manufactured in Australia had a vacuum/economy gauge as big as the speedo - marketing tool

I just looked in my owner's manual at the instrument cluster photo & it doesn't show the economy gauge. Where I saw it on the instrument cluster of the 190e I was viewing was at the bottom of the left hand circle where the fuel gauge, temperature, & oil pressure gauge is located. I have had 300e's, 190e's, & a 240 diesel and all without the economy gauge like the one I saw listed. It just kind of grabbed by attention, because it was definitely a new one to me!

I believe that all M103 cars had them, at least the 124 models. The M104 cars did not, the diesels did not.

Just to be clear, the US W201 had them, along with the "Unleaded Fuel Only" sticker; while the non-US models likely didn't have it as they weren't "full trim" models like the MBUSA ones. My 1985 2.3-16 gray market from Germany doesn't have the Economy gauge, or the outside temp LCD, or lighted visors, cruise control, etc.

I would think that you can just pull the left gauge cluster from an M103 car and add the vacuum line. I'm not sure whether the fuel gauge is transferrable between wagon and sedan though.
