1991 300TE 224,466 miles...but
it will not start.
I live in Arizona. The car is garaged, pampered, new wires, cap, rotor, starter, fuel pump, filters, cooling system, runs as good as my 1995 wagon and in some ways it handles better...we get to the Bay Area and as soon as it got cold and damp it started acting up. Turn on ignition, never cranking for longer than ten seconds at a time and right at the point where the battery is about to give up and the starter is about ready to stop...it fires right up! This same sequence has happened a total of six times. After it starts the first time in that particular day it always starts perfectly after about four seconds. In the past two weeks I put close to two thousand miles on it and it ran perfectly. Mileage is at twenty two miles per gallon and it burned a half a quart of oil. Thanks in advance for your inputs. crank position sensor
It might be the crank position sensor. If it hasn't been changed in the last 100K, you might as well change it anyway.
I just posted my fix in the SL forum. Remember I'm talking about the crank position sensor and not the CAM postion sensor. It's the single wire plug (look up what the sensor and plug look like on Fastlane) that comes from the Ignition Control Unit (EZL) and either goes to front of the engine (next to the fan) or goes to the rear on the edge of the bell housing. I've forgotten how it worked on my TE's. Locate it, pull the whole wire and sensor out to inspect and clean the tip well (if you're not going to replace it), put it back in there and screw it down snugly. Hope this helps you. Al

Check your engine temp sensor....It is most influential component for cold starts on the M103.
FYI there is no cam position sensor. Only crank. Rear side of head. You can perform resistance test at the plug end at the EZL. Spec is 800-1500ohms iirc.
