Can someone identify this part from a 1988 560 SEL

Hi Folks,

I removed the center console and carpet preparing to replace the parking brake cable in my '88 560 SEL. In the driver footwell, next to the gas pedal I found the spring-like wire shown in the attached photo. It appears to run inside an insulated tube, and has burst out of the tube (or the tube is worn away. Does anyone know what this is or what problems it might be causing or about to cause?

Thanks!

Condensation drain tube.

It is supposed to be a tube, to carry the condesation water from the A/C unit to outside of the car, yours is simply peeing on the floor.

Thanks, Jeff,

I guess I just haven't noticed the moisture because it's been too cold to run the A/C.

Cheers!
