Question Service indicator reset?

I am new to the group, so forgive me if this question has been answered before...

Is it possible for me to reset the service indicator on my 1998 E-class without the special tool. It's the one with the 38-pin socket.
I remember doing the older BMW's by connecting 2 pins together with a piece of wire...

Can replies be sent to

in6704@wlv.ac.uk

Thanks,

Mike

The service light can be reset using a tap dance on the trip reset button. I have never done it that way but the info is in the owners manual telling how to do it. Do the process with the doors CLOSED.

Steve,

Thanks for the quick reply - there is certainly nothing in the (UK) owners manual to that effect.

The permutations of 'taps' are endless, and presumably the ignition needs to be at position 2 (or 1?), but I'll have a go...

Still tapping...

Well, I've been tapping away with no success... My E300TD is the same vintage as yours, so the techniquie should be the same. I'd be grateful if you could let me know.

I just wish UK dealerships or even independents were more cooperative!

I'm not sure whether all FSS reset procedures are the same, but try these. Be sure the doors are closed.

On most cars from 1998 thru 2000 this will work!
Just remember what STEVE said " CLOSE DOORS" also wait until the dome lamp & instrument cluster shut off as well.
This is a timing procedure so go quickly!

2000 m/b CLK430

The check engine light came on this morning on my 2000 CLK430. Mechanic diagnosed mass air sensor reading. Suggested it be replaced. Vehicle has 28,000 miles and is responsive with a smooth idle and no hesitation upon acceleration. Could this be a problem other than the mass air sensor? Thanks for the help.
