Help with correct parts for W108.018 ring gear / flex plate

Hi There,

Looking for some help finding the correct parts for my car...

I own a 1971 280se, 6cyl, 2.8, fuel injected, auto transmission.

Last week the car started making a metalic grinding on hard acceleration, so I took it to my MB mechanic, when we went to start it the starter turned but not the engine. My mechanic diagnosed that the ring gear and flex plate has failed. I have been trying to source the parts but cannot find a flex plate for my car. When I go to MB online stores, there is no flex plate listed for my model?

My mechanic is hesitant to open the car up to find out the part number, as I live in New Zealand (very few parts over here), and it would mean clogging up his workshop for at least a week whilst waiting for parts from overseas.

Could anyone help me find the correct part number for the flex plate for my car?

BTW, I found this old thread about this issue:

Thanks

the epc lists a 108 030 07 05 as the "flywheel"-with the ring gear-and a 108 032 01 06 as the "follower"-looks like a flex plate-for the automatic 108-018 cars. good luck, chuck.

Hey thanks for that, I had come up with something similar, when i had searched, but the word follower threw me off. Have since found this parts diagram on a russian site the confirms for sure:

the site I have linked to can be run through google translate and seems to be a good resource for part numbers with diagram:
