euro '85 280SE no start HELP...
SO to start off, The 280SE arrived early one day last night and was exactly as I viewd when I bought it.. Nice... It needed a bit of cosmetics and a small area or QP rust repair on the P/S quarter but nothing like my 380SE... As purchased she ran but intermittantlyat time or purchase.. The FP at the time was comdemned as bad.. The transported did get her on the racks as the car fired on her own but when she arrived she was stone dead...
Jumping down the line of the story, she was pushed off the racks and into the driveway... I proceeded to do light interior cleaning of the cloth interior and such and replace some of the cosmetic eyesores initially.. next I installed the fuel pump, fresh battery, and some gas to start.. Nothing... I did find a culprit being the FPR being bad since it smelled burnt.. I tried to jump the FPR wires 30 and 87 to get the pump going and nothing.. no fire over but fuel pump priming.. I am going to check for spark just incase this morning so I'll update this thread but I do have a couple of questions.. 1. The W126 280SE is not listed in the Mercedes CD manuals.. What do I go by? 2. If strictly a FP issue, wouldn't jumping the 2 wires (Relay out) get pump to force fuel into the engine and fire over? 3. This car has some components I have never seen, There is a black box (looks like a modern ECU with harness) mounted on the P/S near the headlight and cannot figure out what it is for.. Has a 30amp universal relay sticking out of it also. Any other placed to look? A fellow lister stated that the 280SE should be pure mechanical fuel injection..... I do know this one doesn't have a ICM or nothing I could find near the windshield as in the euro 500SE's HELP please... P/S I also posted a parts needed in the Classified section.. __________________

Day 2 of the 280SE project:
Worked to figure out what was wrong with the "no fuel" situation.. Traced and manually ran jumper wires to energize the pump. No avail.. 2nd pump no good.. Found a bosch reman fuel pump at a local parts supplier and installed this one... At this time I found that the P/O tried to get the car to run on a VW type pump as well as re-wire the ring connectors and some wire to the pump with 16 gauge wires. These were toasted and looked as if there was a short... Now with the wires redone, connecters soldered and new pump in... The car has FUEL and alot of it... That is the good... The bad, I have no spark what so ever. I tested the wire output to the coil and I am getting power +15 and -1 being a ground.. No power out of the coil tower to the ignition distributor.. I swapped out coil 1 for another good known unit... Same situation, no dice... Any thoughts on what to go to next??? Might the EZL be bad, and if so, are they model specific?
