Question 190e coolant leak

I have an '89 190e, 2.6 with a coolant leak near the front left side of the engine. I pulled the engine cover and could see coolant running down the side of the oil pan. It was comming from somewhere on the front left side of the engine. I suspect the water pump, but could not see if that was the source. Other possibilities are a leaking water jacket plug, or a head gasket leak. I didn't see either.

Any suggestions on how to pinpoint the source?

Could be from the weep hole on the water pump. Get one of those little mirrors on an extension tube and look behind the pump.

Hi DaveK,

I think you have the same problem that I have with my 92 190e 2.6. I have the same leak in exactly the same location. I am about to replace my waterpump tomorrow. You can read my thread http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=29568

Also here is some information on removing the waterpump from Benzmac http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=6980&highlight=waterpump

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Walter

Thumbs up thanks for the replies

I suspect the pump also, but before replacing it, I thought I'd make sure I wasn't overlooking something simple.
