well, getting ready to replace cam and rocker's on my 89 300se,found a good used head for 350 bucks,my question is can i just back off the tensioner cap about 1/4 inch out and be able to get the chain and gear back on cam when reinstalling, according to a freind of mine that owns a foreign car repair shop this is the way he does it.

i think i will try to wedge a piece of wood between the chain so that it wont move, like i used to do on the old datsun 4 cylinder ohc,it worked then maybe it will work again, dont know i will try it first before taking gear off cam.

WTF
Unbolt the cam sprocket and zip tie the chain to it. Simply swap the new cam in. Timing is unchanged. Don't make your life harder than it needs to be. ![]()
