No power to wiper motor, but washer works? '96 E320 W210

There is good continuity across the motor, but no power - or ground on the brown wire - at the motor connector (I assume brown is ground, but is it switched?). The only thing that may be causal: the wiper worked (I guess) until I was checking the fuses for 12v on my ABS/ASR problem (which turned out to be cured, for now, by disconnecting the 3rd brake light which had a connector that was arc'd away, but worked nevertheless) and the "DEFECTIVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER" or whatever showed up - only twice, though.
Last clue: there is a faint tick from the behind the center of the dash whenever the wiper switch is turned on/off. No sounds at the motor, FWIW. All fuses 2X checked.

SO did I fry something or is there a relay and/or delay module somewhere?
I have searched extensively, but all I've learned is that these cars must have a bulletproof wiper system - not much info, although I DID find the "wiper motor controller relay" for 1995s (below) not sure if it applies - if so WHERE IS IT??

(above is a 1995 SL, will be searching underhood on mine soon)

Is that dastardly K40 multi-relay module somehow tied into this?

TIA!

-Tom

It was a bad connection at the rearmost module in the passenger side box, near the firewall. There is a very large connector (at least 20 pins & 3x10cm) at the bottom, held on with one of those lever-clamps used on some ECUs; but the smaller (2x3cm appx) plug near the top had not been fully seated (by me) when I was probing around; thought it was clamped in by the lever, too, but the assumption proved false.

anyway nice surprise, no $ fix, even if the problem was created by me!
