Spark plugs
Need to change spark plugs in my 1997 E420. There are so many different kinds. What are the differences between plug types if I want to upgrade from the standard OEM? Is it worth the difference in price? Standard OEM is 2 dollars and some are 8 dollars.

Some people feel that the W210s run best on single electrode BOSCH or equivalent NGK plugs. Basically what was in it when new. About 18 mos. ago I switched to BOSCH 2 electrode Platinum plugs and have noticed no difference in performance or gasoline mileage which I check on every tankful. As always YMMV
FYI, newer plugs no longer require any anti-seize compound as there is a coating on the plug. Good luck. |

bosch sound good to me,platinums are great,i have an 89 so i used copper core electrode ngk's,personally i dont think you need to spend $8.00 on plugs,i always ran platinum bosch in every car i owned.they stay clean and last a very long time. they say the gap distance is what gives you better or worse fuel mileage so check into it.goodluck

Upgrade? Upgrade to what? The plugs specified for your car are the ones the engineers who designed the motor intended for optimum performance.

go with what it came with, there is no upgrade. made alot of cars run better by installing platinums in the trash can. good luck, chuck.

Norm, use the spark plugs specified in your Owner's Manual.

Fred, in all likely hood the plugs spec'ed in the manual are no longer made.
But going to the BOSCH USA website and using the plug finder app will list all of the plugs currently made and recommended by BOSCH, MB's OEM supplier. |
