'95 C280 won't crank.

This is a salvage car I bought a few years ago for the engine but haven't gotten around to using it yet. I wanted to park it at another spot on my property but it wouldn't even crank. I last drove it a year ago and it started fine. I unlocked the trunk and put in a good battery. Then unlocked the drivers door with the key and tried to start it. All the normal lights in the dash came on but it wouldn't crank. Any ideas why? Immobilzer? But I unlocked the car with a key. Transmission shifter interlock? But I also tried it in neutral. Starter solenoid stuck? But none of the dash lights dimmed in the start position. What else?

No immobilizer on a 95.
Check for crank signal at solenoid and go from there.

Jumped the solenoid and with the ignition key on run and it started. Just ran a second or two because the fuel pump won't stay on. Is that because of this backwards starting proceedure? I do have the dash and center console out of the car and many connectors are apart. I hope when I put everything back together it will start with the key like before.

i recently had a no crank issue with my benz, which is a 93 m104 2.8.

The problem turned out to be the #5 fuse. Although the fuse was not burnt out, there was some oxidation on the fuse tips ,which caused an open circuit, and prevented the engine from cranking.

Make sure that both the #5fuse and contact points in the fuse box are oxidation free.

good luck

K38? So it does have an immobilizer? Ours doesn't even have remote entry.

Don't know if it does. Do know it started when I jumped the relay.
