Gas Hog Help!!

Ok guys, the work on the 300SE is still going on, but I've got a new problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. I have a 1987 560SEL. Because of the V8, it normally eats gas, but just recently it has started to inhale it. I have a strong gasoline smell for the first ten minutes or so after starting it also. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!!

obviously you have a fuel leak.

see if you can trace the rubber fuel lines from the firewall area to the fuel rail. i suggest you follow the rubber lines with your fingers while squeezing the rubber as you go. any leaks in the rubber should be evident.

if not in the front, the leak might be in the rubber hoses above the fuel tank.

either case, finding the leak should be pretty easy.

I suggest you stop driving the car until you sort the problem out.

Check EHA and under the fuel distributor for leaks there. That is the most common place and if so, replace O-rings.
