Questions about euro driving lights...

Hey everyone. I just bought a set of euro headlights for my 92 300E, and Im not sure what type of lights pop in for the "driving lights" I know the main bulbs are h4, but are the driving lights h3? Anyone know?

fog lights or driving lights?

badinfo

the fog lights or driving lights take an h3 bulb.

are you sure you have driving lights/500e set up?

just curious...

Yea, im pretty sure I have the driving lights. As to if they are from a 500E I don't know. They do have the chromed out main reflector. The reason I think they are driving lights is because there is no yellow reflector present as was the case with my stock headlights. However, I could be wrong, but the lens on the "driving lights" also seems to be a bit different than on the original us spec lights.

And hey ebennz, looking at your profile you say you have the vacuum adjustment mod. Could you tell me how you did this? Im not sure where to run a vacuum line from, and how to get it to the dash etc.. thanks!

badinfo-
you may have the 500e lights, that do have a driving light vs fog light.
i'm attaching a picture of 300e,400e up close euro light. i have fog lights.
also the euro's [except in france] have a white foglight. there is no yellow cover over it.
if you still have your u.s. lights e-mail me i have a question for you.

in order to have the headlight beam adjuster installed you must have either bosch or vacuum adjustable hella lights. are either of these what you have?
this webpage is a big help and has a lot of good info, but is not complete.

http://www.mbca.org/w124.htm

if your lights have this feature let me know, i may be able to help you get the switch panel and dial. there are 2 options. one is [imo] NOT nearly as authentic as the other.
do a search here on "beam adjuster" and "vacuum adjustable lights".

let me know
peter

Hmmm... my lights look very similar to the ones you posted, except to me it seems that the foglight reflector is pointing more upward and towards the center of the car on mine. I am going to get some lights today, and then we will be able to find out if they are fogs or driving lights. As far as my light assembly is concerned, they are Ziggler units, but they have the vacuum adjuster ballon thing...

Hi peter -

Great pics! Did you have to get a complete new panel for the headlight adjuster or did you just modify an existing US one? I'm also planning the Euro headlight conversion and my panel only has the main headlight knob. It looks like you replaced the whole thing...thanks.

hi chris

if you get the authentic one, it is a whole new panel and also dial.

i'm going to buy a few of these to sell. if you're interested let me know

do you have a telescoping steering wheel on your car?

you need to check with place you'll get euro's at and make sure they are vacuum adjustable.

IF you get your lights at bekkers, you can get the oem clear corners with them, they have the best package price for bosch units.[bosch is vacuum adjustable]

Headlight/Vacuum adjust

Ebenz & Badinfo,

Several Months back, another user "ChowPit"was nice enough to mail me a copy of a very good article posted in The Star Magazine. It showed not only how to do it, but listed ALL the part numbers required for the headlight, wiring, and vacuum upgrades (there was a wiring/relay upgrade for overwattage bulbs). I think any MBCA member can get ahold of those back issues.

hi jason m

in my second post on this thread i posted the hypertext link directly to the STAR article.

that is a nice article.
the part numbers for the headlight switch and dial are WRONG.
they are NOT for the same ones pictured in that article.

thanks

peter

Peter (ebennz)

Let me know if you get the panels and the controler for the adjustable beams. I have Hella Euros with the adjustment but have not hooked it up yet. I am definately interested in getting a kit together so I can hook it up. I have the adjustable steering wheel but no rear fog light.

Keep in touch, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info peter. I've got the telescopic steering wheel. Along with the seat memory, it's very handy after my girlfriend borrows the car.

I'd be interested in the console as well if you are buying a bunch of them. What price range? Thanks.

Chris
