Coolant light & interior electrical lights
Hello!
I have a couple of problems I'm hoping to get some guidance on to try and self-fix before taking it to the shop. 1) When I have the ignition on and the lighting system off... the interior dashboard + console lights will flicker everytime I press the brake pedal. Any thoughts? I've read a lot about the biodegradable wiring harness, but my cars records show it was replaced (I'm the second owner, but have a complete set of maintenance records from MB). Other than that, I'm not sure what it could be. 2) My coolant light will "glow" after the engine has been running for a few minutes. The coolant level is correct. The coolant light will be completely off when the engine is cold, but as it warms up (say over the course of 15 - 20 minutes), the coolant light will begin to glow increasingly brighter (but I don't think it gets to its full brightness). Again.. any thoughts? Btw - I have a 1992 300CE (124 engine). Thanks!

1) sounds like feedback thru the lamp control module OR at the tail lights
Have you tried that with the tail lights both un-plugged? 2) sounds like a bad level sensor in the coolant reservoir

1) Thanks, I'll try that tonight. If I pull the tails out and press the brake pedal, what would be the expected outcome? And the fix?
2) Thanks again. I'll research how to get at this part and see if I can do it on my own

2) Order and receive new sensor and o-ring.
Remove electric plug pulling straight off/toward front of vehicle. Remove snap ring with snap-ring pliers. Observe plastic on sensor where it fits into tank as one side is larger so it will go in only one way. Place paper towels under sensor/tank area. Remove old sensor and quickly insert new sensor. Replace snap-ring, electric plug and a few tablespoons of coolant. Handle coolant soaked paper towels as poison. |
