To grease or not?

Hello all,

Anyone change their center drag link before (aka: Tie Rod Assembly - Center)? I just replaced mine as well as the attached damper.

Reading the shop manual it says to "clean the steering arms sockets of grease". The sockets are where pins of the drag link go into.

So my question is, are the pins on each end of the link suppose to go into the steering arm sockets with no grease applied ... metal on metal? Or do you grease the pins first?

I disagree, the factory did not grease the tapered holes where the tie-rod ends bolt up to the steering arm, why should we? It's a tapered interference fit, and designed to achieve maximum resistance to twisting when assembled clean and dry.
The ball-end joints are pre-greased and sealed in rubber boots for the life of the unit, so no greasing required there either.

Agreed. I have never greased tie rods before installing.
