1990 300e Blower/Fan problem
Hi, I did not find an answer after searching for a bit here, so I have to open a topic and hope somebody can give me at least a hint....
I own a 1990 300e and the blower fan ONLY works when the car is shut off, as soon as I start the car the fan stops running.... What might be the cause? Battery or the ghost in the machine ![]() Thanks in advance for the help.... |

Sounds like a problem with the ignition switch.
You need to check (have checked) power (12V) to the blower fuse with key on & off.

Although I had to change the ignition switch a few months back, I doubt that it is the problem since I installed a new one...after I messed up a simple tumbler change...long long story and some of it you can even read here.......
![]() ![]() Maybe my english is not good enough (I am from Germany living in the US) and a misunderstanding took place as well: I meant when I turn the key to position 2 (when the ignition lights are on), the blower runs, when I turn further to start the engine, it turns off...and when I stop the car, turn engine off, the blower turns on again... BUT I certainly thank you and check the fuse.voltage. BTW, the blower fuse is located in front of the normal fuse box, right? If I am right, that fuseplate is fine...I will just check the power though so I can mess more things up. Because what do I do if the power, voltage, is too low in running mode? Sorry that I find that amusing, but thats for me the better way of handling this type of things instead of running against the wall, head first. ![]() |

Julian0922, as far as I know there is a 30-amp strip fuse for the blower inside a small black plastic box mounted on the left (driver's side) strut tower. Typically an older strip fuse develops a hairline crack that causes intermittent blower operation, but that doesn't appear to be your problem.

Yep Ferdman, you are right, that IS not the problem nor the solution.
Checked it, also voltage, running and not running, everything's fine ... so back to square one I guess! |
