W124 rear end harness junction

For a while I have been living with a GREMLIN that keeps the "dimmed & not dimmed" illumination lights on at all times. All night! I am about to buy a new light control unit for this '93, 300E when I discovered that all those lights go OUT when I step on the brakes.

My Haynes diagram says that the only place these two circuits are even close to each other is at an 8 pin pass. compartment/tail wiring harness connector.
Before I tear the car apart can anyone tell me where I will find this connector.
In the trunk or under the back seat?

A second question please: a thread search revealed one discussion that contained a schematic with an "instrument illumination control unit" in an older ('88) W124 D. My newer diagram has no such control. Is this supplanted by the massive Light Control Unit in my '93?

Thanks guys.
