124 rear wheel bearing replacement
Rear wheel bearing R/R for those on a shoestring budget. I did one of mine this past weekend and found these Youtube videos on the BMW 325 I rear bearing R/R to work perfectly for replacing the 124 rear bearings as well. And you don't need to dismantle the entire axle.
Rear Wheel Bearing Removal With No Special Tools BMW 325i - YouTube Rear Wheel Bearing Installation With No Special Tools BMW 325i - YouTube I purchased the full rear bearing kit. One suggestion is to buy 2 of the 3/4 plumbing pieces (grind one down to the actual diameter of the bearing making install easy. Also have your metal cutting dremel handy in case the old bearing housing is stubborn to come out. Mark

Thanks. Those are excellent videos. Rear bearings were one of the few jobs I was planning to leave to the dealer because I was totally convinced that it was beyond my skill level. After watching these videos, I see that it's not as difficult as I was led to believe.

Yea the removal of the hub unit to have the bearing pressed in by a machine shop had me leaning toward the dealer or indie as well.
FYI: The OEM bolts on my axle were the Torx 12 point female and the ones that come with the kit are the Torx 12 male. Mark

That guy has a remarkable lack of trepidation regarding suspension work. I wouldn't necessarily use his method of pressing the bearing in by the inner race(which is almost guaranteed to put small flats in the races and cause the bearing to fail early), but I admire his can-do approach and willingness to film it so others can benefit. I noticed he went out and bought a proper bearing tool to press the bearing in when the one he pressed in by the inner race failed early. Something to think about.

That was why I suggested grinding down the outer edge of a second 3/4 plumbing piece to the exact diameter of the new bearing to press it in properly without taxing the inner part of the bearing.
