1984 190 E Shifter lights/center console

the PNR32, strip is dead. I opened it up thinking is was just a bulb, but the strip actually looks like an early LCD & I haven't found an OEM part. I kinda hate to replace with a salvage piece... any ideas. Also... any recommendations for a new, smaller steering wheel?

thanks!

i doubt it would be an LCD, the 201 is very close to the W124 in many aspects, and W124s use a 1.2W bulb in that strip. the W126 has a fiber optic line coming in from the octupus bulb behind the dash to light up that shifter strip.

The conosle shifter decal is lit by the single bulb at the top of the shifter console.

As for a smaller wheel, the "sportline" equiped cars had a slight smaller steering wheel, also the 2.3-16. Non-airbag OEM wheels may be harder to source, since they became a standard around 1986, however if your 1984 is without an airbag, the aftermarket wheels are available when you get the mounting adapter, from Momo, Grant, etc.

Zulfiqar,

Yeah, it's looks like a fiber optic running from behind the dash. I wish I would have known when I had the dash off replacing the ignition switch... any tips on trouble shooting or should I just take the dash back off and start testing/shaking wires?

I have a 84 190D and my light there is out too, I looked at it and there is no bulb like my 124. Half of my cluster lights are out, I think that is the problem but I cant get the other half of my cluster lights to work, I have had the cluster out twice and tested the bulbs in the half that does not work, and they work until I put them in the cluster.

Does anybody have a picture without the bulb? I think mine has a fiberoptic that comes from the cluster, and half of my cluster is out and dont know why. I put new bulbs in the cluster and still nothing.

The 1984 models were the last year that they used a fiber optic line that connected to the right side of the instrument cluster fiber optic "spider"
