Bad idle /check engine light code 9, 19

I have a 1995 E-320, running, idling bad, and check engine light on. I did the self diagnostic module to check for codes, and I am getting,
code 9 Intake air temperature sensor, open circuit
code 19 Injectors circuit open or circuit short emission control module adaptation in engine control module at limit

Any ideas what this codes translated as to what may be bad or not functioning properly?

Thanks

Seems to be telling you your air temp sensor is bad, the one at the air filter. Maybe you can try cleaning it with some MAF spray, and checking with a DMM. Not sure what values you would be looking for. Cheap to replace if you need to.

With the fuel injectors, I interpret what you have posted to mean that one or more of the fuel injectors aren't working properly, and that the computer has compensated as far as it can for the faulty parts.

Fuel injectors are expensive for your car. I suggest testing them to see if they are electronically functioning. It may be that they are electronically OK, but one or more of them has some kind of blockage or something inside preventing a proper spray. The good news is the electronic type fuel injectors can be sent off somewhere and fully cleaned and flow tested for around $17 each. New injectors for the HFM M104 are around $80 each, ouch.

Has the wiring harness ever been replaced on this car? If not it's probably rotten, and any codes you retrieve can be false. I would not trust any diagnostic codes unless the engine wiring harness was known to be good. It will have you replacing parts all over the place unneccessarily.

hello,

my mistake, i was informed that you have the right codes.

delano's advice about the wire harness is spot on. as for the IAT sensor, on my car when i disconnect it , the engine still runs normal without it(no idle fluctuation).

good luck

Thank you all for your advise
I agree about the engine wiring harness it definitively needs to be replaced is just falling apart and as mention it may be the cause of many of the problems the car is experiencing right now
Everything was working fine until I went to fix a coolant leak at the rear where the hose goes into back of engine block and I have to move out of way the harnes close to the hook up for the fuel injector and when I've put everything back together and started the engine it started running very rough, like one cylinder is not working or something

Thanks again for the help
Happy holidays
Oscar

Mercedes engine wiring harness rebuild

This guy rebuilds harnesses for much cheaper than it would cost to buy a new one. Being a dealer item, I'm sure the harness is quite expensive. If you look around you might be able to find a harness for a decent price, but if not and it were me in your situation I would be tempted to get it rebuilt.

I am a cheapskate however. $900 for a bundle of wires that should have been made out of better material to begin with makes me a bit angry.

Hi d. delano,

Just wondering if you had any work done by Victor, or know of anyone in the forum who has the harness rebuild by him, I am interested in replacing the wiring harness in the E-320.
Thanks for the help

I have not had any work done by Victor. If I had a 94+ E-Class with a rotten harness I would not hesitate to get the original harness rebuilt by him and save myself a few hundred dollars rather than buy new. Check MBWorld or Benzworld for people who have had work done by him, I think there are a few.

The wiring harness must be rebuilt before permanent damage occurs. I'd would use Victor to rewire it. Price is right. Check it out here

The correct explanation for what's happening when you get DTC#19 is here. Unfortunately, my eproms are not compatible with a six cylinder engine; only for V8 engines.

Thanks d.delano, I just wanted to get some reassurance that a rebuilding of the harness is a doable thing, and I had in fact send am e-mail to Victor asking for some information but did not hear from him, but I will try again.

Hi Jim, I have follow you and your excellent web page with interest since my other MB happens to be a 97 S500 and I guess we share something in common is a great car. Too bad that you eproms are not compatible with the 124 6 cylinders, but any ways I do have some understanding now of what the problem(s) may be

Thank you all for you wonderful input you guys are great
Best regards and Happy New Year
Oscar
