The spring on my '92 300SD (W140) door compartment lid has become inoperative. I don't know if it is broken or if has come unattached. The one on the rider's side went the other day and so I think I'd like to fix them. I'm sure they have these sort of compartments in other models as well. Do the springs break or become detached from their moorings? Can they be replaced? I don't see them in the parts breakdown. I'd rather not take the door apart to find out there is nothing to be done for them.
