Question Turn Signal Lever Repair PLEASE HELP

I have printed one of the DIY stickies on this procedure. I consider myself pretty good with this type of thing but I've hit a snag. The item in the picture that I am trying to remove is the steering angle sensor I believe. I'm gently prying on this to remove it. It doesn't want to come off. My question is am I doing something wrong here or do I just need to be more forceful. I don't want to break it that's for sure. Please help me.

Thanks

I haven't got into that on my W124. But on the W123 the signal switch stalk would have to come out first.

Yes but it's behind this mechanism.

I just did this a few weeks ago and I've already forgotten, but is that not a plastic cover that comes off first?

I might could pry the front off but you're supposed to keep the red key in the alignment hole. I'm afraid I'll damage it if I separate it.
