Meyle is aftermarket quality, most likely made in Turkey or China.

Thanks guys. I already got the lowdown on Meyle from another forum. The reason for my asking is that ******** sells Lemfoerder, Meyle, and Uro...and I heard about Uro.

I've alreaqdy ordered the Lemfoerder

Thanks again
Nick

While I would suggest buying the German made product I would also not hesitate to use the Meyle brand parts. Their products are made in China, Turkey and various other countries however I have had only a few failures with their products and all of those were brake light switches having a slight leak. Their quality control seems to be great and I'll continue to use them since they are reproducing many items that SWF, Bosch, ATE and other German companies have discontinued.

I've used Meyle/Lemfoerder parts without any problems.

URO is typically seen as the brand that you have to watch out for, use them in non-critical applications.

Alternatively, you can go to XXXX and order right from MBUSA. I think the original parts used were TRW's...

Lemfoerder lasted me 5 years/35,000 miles.

The originals lasted 18 years/ 165,000 miles.

Ill be buying these parts from the dealer from now on.

Lemfoerder is the best you will find outside of the dealer. Meyle is a repackager, and more and more of it is from China.

IMHO, the one to really avoid for steering/suspension parts is Karlyn.

Lemfoerder belongs to ZF and was most likely the supplier of your original tierod. The only added value you get from the dealer is accelerated wallet lightening (oh, and that espresso cup you can drool into as you ogle the new AMGs).

We'll continue to enhance it with web links to the companies, as well as listings of key lines of parts they make that are commonly available. Just have to find the time....

I appreciate the link to the other board- the list is somewhat comprehensive and is 100% on target with what my experience has been.

I'm also glad to see they added "FEQ" to the list of brands to avoid. I purchased a set of FEQ strut mounts for the 190, based on the recommendation of the guy at the site I was purchasing from (not fastlane or peach parts) and based on the photo which depicted what appeared to be thicker and of higher quality than other listed photos.

What arrived in the mail was sprayed black- so I really couldn't tell what it was made of. 3 months after install- the mount broke and the strut shifted from center and I had to have it towed. The shop showed me a piece of the mount- it was cheap pot-metal sprayed black. You could literally snap a piece of it off with a pair of pliers. I sent both mounts back, but they only reimbursed me for the broken one. So, don't get Feq-ed my friends...

I strongly suspect that APA, Uro, and FEQ all get their junk from the same factories in China. When you see any part that is drastically cheaper (like, 40-60% cheaper) than a known brand name like Lemfoerder... run away. Fast. Especially when it's a safety item like steering parts, suspension, or flex discs that could cause an accident when they fail.

Spine:

Definitely go with the Lemforder. I totally rebuilt my front and rear end on a '91 420SEL. Bought Meyle upper control arms. Price. Grease boot (gaiter) failed on one within a week. Like anything else, you get what you pay for.
