1979 300D Euro?

Evaluating the possible purchase of a 1979 300D. It has a 5-speed manual transmission. Is this a possible Euro model?

Since this will be my first diesel, any comments on what I should be on the lookout for?

Also the VIN# is 12313012157163 Can anyone run a report on this VIN for me? Thanks,
