I was looking at powerbulbs.com today and noticed the Philips Blue Vision side lights. They offer the bulbs in W5W, T4W and H6W, but I don't know what type of Mercedes these bulbs fit. It also doesn't show up in their application guide. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are a few thoughts, without being able to see the bulbs:
The W5W could be a few things, MB uses 5 watt "push and twist" bulbs for a few applications, most common is the single-filament tail light bulbs, they also use a 5 watt "capsule" type bulb for license plate lamps. The T4W may be the push-in type bulb they use on the front side marker bulbs on cars with side markers on the bumper, such as the 210 chassis. I believe this is a 4 watt bulb, and in the US I think it's called a 198 bulb, may be incorrect, it is a 3 digit number though.
The H6W I believe is the small halogen bulb that is used for front parking lights on the newer models, this would be like the small inner oval lights on the 210 chassis, but just the bulb for the dim light when the brights aren't on.

Can a W124 take H4 headlight bulbs with 85/100W with the standard wiring without riskss of melting the headligth or wiring?

I don't think any of these are usable in your 87. The W5W is for the front side markers for a car with seperate sidemarker lamps in the bumper, like the 210 chassis E class. The T4W I am unsure if that has an application for a US car, that may be for what is called a "city light" in Europe, it's kind of like a running light. The H6W is as I said, for a front marker light on a 210, like the front filler light for the small oval inner lense.

Thanks for the help. It looks like none of these bulbs will work with my 87 300E. I am going to get new head light bulbs, and I was looking for the same bulb manufacturor for both the head lights and markers. Unfortunately these lights won't work so I'll have to resort to the Japanese Polarg lights for the side markers and the Philips Blue Vision for the headlights. If you have any recommendations for 9004 bulbs that produce a white light, not blue, I would really appreciate the help. (I've read all the old posts about these types of lights not being beneficial, but I like the look). Thanks.

There is a salesman at work who gets into lighting changes. In general, in the dealer shop I am in, we don't get into this topic very much. I'll see if the salesman I mentioned has a suggestion for you, he has a sedan and a coupe 124 chassis.

For a W124 these bulbs you mention are used for "city lights" in the european spec cars. If you have a set of euro headlights you can see the cut-out for the citylights inside the actual main headlight reflector. They come in two versions...the push in type which is glass base is 5w5 and the metal base type is tw4. The glass type is also used for the side marker lights in the w210 chassis as mentioned.
You can pick up philips blue vision bulbs 9004 at Kmart if you can find it in stock for the main headlight. The blue vision are not as white as I think you are looking for, I know cause I run them on my euro w124. I also modified my euro city lights to run as a side marker light, when I signal I get white-orange-white-orange. I read somewhere that someone was trying to do the same thing to us-spec benz with euro lights and I don't know if they were successful.
If you are looking for pure white light you may have to go japanese (PIAA, Raybrig, Polarg, Nokya, etc) and they're not cheap. I am also on the look out for white lights in H4 format. I don't want something harsh just mild and white.

Again, thanks for the help. I am really interested in seeing what the salesman has to say. I think I am going to go with the Sylvania Silver Stars, because as Yal said, the Philips Blue Visions may be a little too "blue" for my tastes. I think the combination of the Silver Stars for the head light bulbs and Polarg hyperwhite bulbs for the markers should look good, but I am still open to suggestions. Yal, how did you make your city lights flash white-orange-white? That sounds intersting. Oh, what is the OEM wattage for standard w124 bulbs? I couldn't find it in the manual, but something along the lines of 55/65 rings a bell. Thanks again guys.

I'll try to remember to hit him up for info on Monday. I had 1 opportunity on Friday, then I think I got distracted by the coffee machine or something.
Stock 9004 bulbs on this I believe are 55/60 watts.
