New to the Forum, recent Mercedes convert

Hi!

I just joined this forum so please excuse any stupid mistakes I may make when posting anything.

I just bought a 1993 400e (our first Mercedes) for my wife and when I searched the internet for more info about the car, I came across this forum. I was very pleased to see the interest and help offered to others by the other members of this board. Nobody blows off others even if their questions seem trivial.

I guess I wanted to say the obvious: Mercedes makes a fantastic car!! I had never ridden in a Mercedes until 3 weeks ago when my brother-in-law came into town for a visit in his new car - a 1998 Mercedes (I didn't catch the model number.)
I always thought that Mercedes was an OK car, but over-rated. Boy, was I wrong!!! After going for a 5 minute drive in my brother-in-law's Mercedes, my whole attitude changed!! What a smooth, quiet ride and what awesome power and cornering!! I joked with my brother-in-law not to give my wife a ride because I was afraid she'd want one too.
As you already know, less then 3 weeks later, I bought my wife one. She just loves the car and it's almost impossible to pry the keys for the car out of her hand!!

Anyways, keep up the good work!!

P.S. - Does anybody else out there recall their first ride in a Mercedes? Was it as obvious to you that Mercedes makes a far superior product compared to most (if not all) north american
made cars?

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on getting your first Mercedes. There are a lot of great people here that can help you out when the need arises. My first ride in a Mercedes was back in about 1981. I bought that Mercedes in 1983. It was a 1961 404.1 Unimog

Welcome to MercedesShop, Toby. I'm sure you'll find it a great place to hang out

My first ride in a Mercedes was in 1990...actually a series of test drives in a few 190E 2.3-16's that I was considering buying. I realized I couldn't really afford one at the time so I passed but I was thrilled to drive them because the 16V was a dream for me since 1983! The build quality, solidity, and refinement were clearly evident!

I bought my first MB in 1996, a rare '86 300E with 5-speed! Soon after I found a great 190E 2.3-16 and managed to buy it as well. Anyway, congratulations on your new car! Enjoy it

My first ride was in a W124...may have been a 300E, I don't remember for sure. Belonged to one of my high school math teachers; she took me to a fast-food place and back to get lunch for a group of kids who hung out in the room during lunch... I think this was in '97.

My second ride was in a '81 W126 300SD (was also my first time driving one) that belonged to a guy I knew in high school. This was in '98, and lasted maybe 15 minutes.

My third time in a Benz was last Friday, being picked up at DFW by the guy who I bought my 300D from, in his '85 300SD...since then, I've been spending over 50% of my time in a Benz, mainly doing 75 (until I got to the CA border and they dropped the speed limit to 70 )

First and second time, I knew it was something special (the SD mainly 'cause I'm a diesel-head and it was the only diesel-powered car I'd seen to date)..now I know I was right before.

And my mom complains about my car having over 200K miles on it...it's just barely getting broken in!

My first drive was in a 1959 or 1960 220S (I think it was an S, four door, six cyl gasoline, 4 speed manual on the column). This was in 1985 and the car had less than 80k miles on it. Drove it from Atlanta, Ga to Savannah, Ga and cruised at around 80 mph the whole way. Got better than 25 mpg and it was definitely an
unforgettable experience.
I coulda bought that car for $3500 - wish I hada.

Welcome Aboard!

My first ride was in a 82 300D when my dad was test driving to buy the car. He ended up buying an 84 Euro 300D which lasted 16 years without one problem and was totaled in an accident......all passengers were safe.

My Dad had a 1959 190 as long as I can remember (he has photos of me next to it as a toddler).

He sold it 14 years later and found a '71 280SE. He still has that one.

I guess the attraction to MBs was a subliminal one. I never deliberately purchased any of mine...my wife and I couldn't find the Toyota dealership so we stopped at the MB dealer to look at the neat cars "we couldn't possibly afford"...

My first ride in a Benz was in a 'then-new' stretch W124 200 (yes, the low-end carburated model...). The reason for the stretch car was that my uncle was getting married.

I remember that I bluntly asked if I could get a ride in the Mercedes. I already knew that it had the I-4 2.0 l engine

My father then ended up looking for a W123 and I remember riding in a whole bunch of them and I hated them 123's...

oh well things change.

Welome Toby!

My first ride was probably on 1/21/75 (my 2nd birthday) when my dad brought home the families 1st Mercedes...a 1975 300D. White with black vinyl interior. It gave 12 years and 275K of faithfull service before it was plaged by rust and overheating problems in the end.

Welcome to the forum!
My first Ride in an MB was when my dad bought my mom a 1973 280C. I loved that car, eventually I convinced my mother to sell it to me, I drove it in high school, and then college, had 475,000 miles on it, the car's name was Stella, her cams were worn and the heat would not turn off, my friends nicknamed her the roaring oven, still anytime we came to Dallas from Ft. Worth they wanted to take Stella. For College Graduation my parents helped my buy a 93 300SD (140) in 1994, I had that car until 2003 (165K) when I traded for a 96 SL320. I have never driven any other car except Mercedes. I sure do miss my S class! I am saving for another. Best Wishes!
