W124 rear window regulators
Did a search and found the question but no real answer.
1992 W124 rear window regulator - dead in full up position (motor is the issue). This means you cant move the regulator up to get it unhooked from the top clip - as far as I can see. Looks like I can pull the motor body from the assembly via the two screws that hold it in place, then the worm drive should be able to freewheel as the worm will be removed. Any other solutions? I'll follow up once I get it out. In case it matters - this is on a parts car, on the running car the rear window is exhibiting a working rear window that wont close all the way - stops about 2" short. From reading it looks like it may be the retaining clip comming out allowing things to pop loose. Figured I'd get the one out of the parts car. It is possible to swap motors if the regulator is buggered - I've done it a bunch of times on W126 regulators and the motor body looks the same. paul |

No easy way I found to get it out. The worm assembly in these is such that the motor wont pull out without removing the worm gear first, this requires removing the backside plate which would also let you pull the cable reel. To do this you would need some low profile torx bits.
However the root cause of the failure is the slider assembly to the cable. The plate that locks it in place is locked by a plastic tab, this brakes and then the plate can rotate down along with the pivot. It can be pushed back in place but is likely to pop out again without the clip. I thought of making a clamp to hold it together in the shop but I figured It was not worth the effort - time to order a new one, unless I decide to make a whole new slider assembly.... Paul ![]() |

If the metal plate between the 2 white plastic bits keeps rotating during operation it can be fixed by drilling 2x 3mm holes throught tha plastic and metal plate. Fit the assembly and rotate the plate back in place. Take 3mm wire and push it through the holes and tie it together using pliers. Plan before you do this to make sure the wires don't interfere with the operation of the window.
The white plastic bit that slides in the guide is known to break too. I fixed mine by once again drilling 3mm holes through the broken bits. Then used 3mm wire that I 'roughened' with sanding paper, covered in superglue and then pushed through the holes. There are many places on the plastic slider where this can be done. I performed both these repairs on the same 124 window 3 years ago and it still works perfectly to this day. |

wish the rear regulators were of the scissor type too. I hate this cable crap. I need to replace my right rear.
