Indicator light switch problem

Hello,
I own a 1971 200 model benz and have a problem with the left signal indicator switch.
Basically, the light switch does not stay up when pushed up to indicate left. The indicator switch works if I hold it up with my hand when making a turn but falls back down when I remove my hand, obviously this is not ideal.
A friend of mine thinks I can disassemble the switch, file back a piece of metal or something so the switch stays up.
What is the solution to this problem? Is there something to file back or do I need a whole new switch piece?

Can anyone please help.
