Oil pan gasket - M119 1992 400E

Went to change the oil on the new to me 400E and looks like someone buggered the drain plug in the past. Not wanting to risk the threads in the pan, I swapped the pan and drain plug from the parts car (also a 92 400E). Anyway, to get to the meat of the matter, in order to get the car mobile I had to reuse the old pan gasket. It is now dripping (I figured that this may happen as you generally don't reuse these gaskets). So the plan is to get a new gasket now, a check of the manual CD's does not indicate the use of any sealant, just clean surfaces and install at 9Nm. The M119 gasket is a hard type gasket NOT a rubber one. Do you need to wipe down the interior section so no oil weeps onto the surfaces while you do the install?

Any other recommendations welcome.
Thanks
Paul

I did search but did not find anything specific.
