Question Changing headlight doors on a 300ce?

Hi,
I need to change the headlight doors (the plastic around the headlights) on my wife's 1990 300ce. I was told that this is not a hard job, but can be very expensive if you screw up & crack the headlight housing. Does anyony have any advice how to perform this job without making a mistake?
Thanks,
JH

This is quite easy. You can spot the large C shaped clips on the top of the lense, there are also a couple on the bottom, once these are all released it can be pulled right off. To get to the bottom ones, the body colored fillers below the lamp unit are removed. If there are headlight wipers, take these off first.
Then the screw on the inner part of the filler is removed, then the outer one, which is accessed by removing the turn signal lense.
After the filler is removed and the rubber strip pulled out of the way, you will see the other C clips on the bottom.
When installing the new lense, just make sure the long indexing pins are aligned with the recesses in the headlamp body, then push it in and make sure the C clip snap over the notches in the headlamp.

I did this on my 420SEL and it was a piece of cake. The headlight wipers actaully folded out of the way. Then from inside loosedn the big round thing securing the turn signal and slide it out far enough to get some working room. Be careful with the tabs holding the old headlight door on as they get brittle and and can break. I used a butter knife to gently pry the old ones off. The bottom was the hardest part but I just got down on the ground and went to work. The new ones just pop right on, slide the turn signal back in and tighten it up, close the hood and that's it.

Jason:
This is a 124 chassis coupe, the filler panel under the lamp is a little different than the 126, but either way, it's not a hard job.
