Question no heat

i have a 82 30dt just purchased, first mb i have no blower operation in any mode. it seems like there is a little heat coming out of the defrosters when driving down the road. i also have an issue with the vac system, you have to lock the drivers side door to get the car to shut off. can you tell me if it is suppose to shift like it has a shift kit in it? the guy that use to own the car told me it has 483k miles on it,he drove it 200 miles a day. it seems to run strong except i seem to think it has no power at take off,but i am use to gas engines, goes down the road at 75 with no problem but on a hill you have to push it to the floor and it will maintain speed. any help or insight would be very much appreciated. i also do all my own work,at least on american made cars. but im going to learn. thanks.
