190e 2.3 should have a 722.4 tranny and should fit.
Tomorrow I'm going to change out a 722.4 tranny in a 260e to a 722.3 from a '90 model 300e. I'll take some images as I do this. If this proves to complicated I have a 230e 722.4 tranny. 722.3 from a 300e has different NSS connector, different rear yoke that connects to the drive shaft, different cooler lines (Bell housing shape), different dipstick tube and stick (722.3 pan is different). Connecting rod from shift lever to transmssion is different shape. 722.4 tranny is much lighter than 722.3. I can pickup a 722.4 tranny and carry it quite easily - 722.3 takes much more effort. ( I dropped a 722.4 on my foot and broke the big toe earlier on this year - I would have done more damage with a 722.3) |

Today I installed a 722.3 in a 260e to replace the leaking 722,4
Went straight in. (a) Had to change cooler lines - 722.4 are 17mm with smaller banjos at the transmission end. - 722.3 are 19mm bolts. (b) Had to change the rear yoke. (c) The pain if you are not electrically minded is that the NSS cable connector is different between the the transmissions. I ended up cutting the end off the 722.4 connector and splicing a 722.3 connector on. (there are only 4 wires involved and they are the same colours on each connector) Speedo works fine. 722.4 Shift rod fitted straight in on 722.3 Sorry no images. I took a 2004 model point and shoot camera and put a SD card in that was too large for that old technology |

The most complicated part is splicing the NSS cable - however is only 4 wires. |

The 86 300E had a 722.4 and the 190E 2.3 should have the 722.4 so everything should match up, right?
