Question 1988 190E 2.3 starts up then stops.

Hi Guys,
I use this car in the winter months and park it in the summer. I start it up every week (a couple of cranks and away she goes) and then let her idle a while. But this last week, it started up just as usual but only ran a couple of revolutions and then stops. I immediately crank her over again, but no responce. I've tried this on four consecutive days, with the same results...fires up but then peters out. Could this be a flooding situation or a starving one?? Your thoughts most appreciated. Thanks

Yeah, that's not enough info to assume anything.
When you say a couple of revolutions you do realize that the engine idles at 8000 revolutions per minute ? So to hear a couple of them requires some supernatural powers

When I say a couple of revs....I mean that it starts up but stops almost immediately thereafter.

Does it help if you let the ignition on for a few more seconds before cranking ?
Before the pump fails, it usually helps to build up the pressure in the system before cranking. But sounds like no gas/faulty pump

check your fuel! remove the feed line and run the pumps see what you are pumping, ( pump into a plastic container) see if condensation has built up water in your system, also there is a filter just inside the fuel distributor you may have moved some trash threw the lines and plugged that little Jewel. reason I say that is that I had a fuel starvation problem on our 420, it would plug up then run very low on power and when I pulled over and shut the engine down the trash would settle then start back up into the filter as I drove. after removing that filter It cleared up. something to try.

1. No difference with holding ignition open longer before cranking.
2. Gas was fresh in May with fuel stabilizer added...should be still good, right?
3. As soon as I can get to it, I will try the fuel line and filter test and let you know.
Thanks again you all for your time and interest....much appreciated.

I am unable to get under the car to check the pump or filter because I cannot drive it to where I could. So, I took off the air cleaner assembly and took a look around and spied the fuel line feed into the fuel distributor. I undid the nut and pulled the line out. A tiny drop of gas dripped out of the distributor. I then put a cup under the fuel line and turned on the ignition....nothing came through. I assume that that should have activated the fuel pump and gas should have been pumping ? If that is so, then it looks like my fuel pump has packed it in. Your confirmations please.
