Is fuel pump activated with ignition?
1988 190E 2.3
I think I have a fuel pump failure? The motor will not fire up...I undid the main fuel line feed into the fuel distributor and pulled it aside and then switched on the ignition but no gas was pumping through it, but i think it should...am I right? Your help... thank you.

Yes, the fuel pump will turn on for about 2-3 seconds each time the ignition is switched on. Then it will turn off and wait until the starter is energized to begin running continuously.
So, you can switch the ignition off and on repeatedly and should hear the pump buzzing each time. DG

Thank you Mike....I'll try and have a look around to find it. If anyone knows where it is.... please let me know. Then once again if found, how do you test the darn thing ?? Thanks a mil.

fuel pump relay
Im pretty sure the fuel pump relay is behind the battery next to the computers and the ovp relay. If you remove the relay you can jump 2 pins to test the fuel pump. I went to look it up for you which pins they are but startekinfo is down for maintenance..............................

Be careful when jumping FPR pins. Whatever makeshift tool your using to jump pins gets real hot.
