Rear End Squeeks W210
When the suspension travels, the rear end of my 98 E300 squeeks. I replaced the shocks because they were shot but that didn't solve the problem. Oddly it was quiet for a day. It is both sides and I can push down on the car and get the noise. How do I trouble shoot it or is it likely to be one bushing?
Is there a 'How To' for fixing the proposed problem?

Have you ever heard of a mechanic's stethoscope? They aren't that expensive (not like a doctor's). They can be helpful for finding motor sounds and bearing noise from things like the water pump. If you are comfortable with the idea, use them to 'listen' to each bushing while someone pushing down on the car.
Actually the bushings on the suspension for the W210 are wear items. Probably just as well to replace them as a set since they have all seen the same use.

I'd start by inspecting the bushings that mount the sway bar. If you can get some lube between the bar and bushing, it will likely quiet up for a while.

So if I am going to start replacing things just because they get loose over time I'd do what?
Sway bar links? Inner and Outer Trailing Arm Bushings? The suspension camber struts get expensive?

Was the outer lower control arm bushings. Made the tool and pressed them out. All better.

nearly a year later.....thanks for the update. I am having the same problem on my 190e. If I spray some water under the rear passenger side suspension components the squeak goes away. I have not isolated the area yet, but I plan on getting some lube and greasing up the bushing temporarily to shut up the noise until I replace it.
