Towing Company's Liability Insurer BUYS NEW (Crated) AMG Engine.

Towing Company is "F**k*d" ,They have NO DEFENSE!!!

"my biggest concern is the tow truck driver STARTED THE CAR TO UNLOAD IT AT THE BODY SHOP... "

You call for a Tow because the Vehicle is unfit to move.
[AND some Yehaw,Darwin award contestant decides to Start the Engine to save
himself a "Little Trouble" ???]

How Much is a "Crated" AMG engine (If Available,AT ALL) ?

It is not his insurance paying.

Engine
MB# 1560105100
$60,050.00

Front struts
$1,702.00

Sub-frame, engine
$1,070.00

My best guess is 7k in sheet metal.

IMO: This is totaled..

Best to take the pay-out and walk away from this one....sad :( Just my 2 cents.

It could be fixed (but not by a dealer and their new parts prices), but the hit on carfax will kill any resale down the road....if that matters to him.

$60K for the motor? Wow...put in a good, used motor if he must have it fixed.

Yep, UPS drivers can make alot of $$, especially around holidays. Who wants to wear a brown Dickies all day long , every single day tho... ;)

DieselPaul 10-31-2012 06:49 PM

Mercedes made plenty of CLS63s especially in black.

The car is totalled, receive insurance money, buy another. As long as the person at fault is insured, what other advice is needed?

And even if we the forum do or don't think the car is totalled, as long as the adjuster thinks its totalled its a moot point. Just make sure they total it.

As long as the motor didn't run dry someone will rebuild that car. CLS500 fenders, a used front bumper, headlights, airbags, and a pull. Doing the work yourself someone will have a nice car for like $20,000.

car-part ( national salvage yard inventory online ) shows

06 to 10 to more or less be the same

New fenders $507
New hood $1352

Used Headlight 500 to 700

Used front bumper ( black ) 900

With a bit of shopping the car could be put back together.

I'd be tempted to: Buy _weld_ on sheetmetal now. ( while it is still available ) Shop around for the other bits then have car pulled / welded.

Right on the money. And it won't matter if it's fixed, 25% damage/salvage title.......what's it worth after that? I'd beg ins to total it out, buy it back from ins co for a few grand and part it out/sell whole.

Hatterasguy 11-06-2012 08:04 PM

If you can buy it back for a bit could make an interesting project.

Jay Leno has that motor and eventually plans to put it in his 300SEL 6.3...:D

Maybe shoe horn it into a W124 wagon...

Mercedes resto rod anyone?

I would not be surprised if it takes $20K to repair, but I doubt it is totalled. From the photos it does not appear the damage got much past the radiator support, so no frame damage, nothing on the suspension, nothing on the engine. Replace everything from the radiator forward, new sheet metal, and it's good to go.

you'd be surprised.. i think their 18 wheeler drivers are in the 6 figures, and their pilots are in the millions..

damn another tow truck driver story :|
