Does anybody know if MBUSA has a standard warranty period for repairs made under a car's original 4 year, 50 k mile warranty? Say for example, I had a water pump replaced under warranty and it is now failing just briefly after the warranty period and just on the other side of the 50 k mark.

I am going to guess 1 year or 12K miles or which ever comes first. This would be from the point or date of repair.
But state law or federal acts may actually be the determiner that requires the 1yr/12K |

This has been clarified a couple times on this board.
If the repair is done under warranty prior to the 50,000 mile mark, the warranty on the repair expires with the factory warranty. If you have your water pump replaced at 49,999 miles, your warranty on the repair is one mile.

where I live in Maryland the law I am quite sure is different.
just so the discription that you just mentioned 49,999 pump installed 50,000 product failure an no warranty, dose not occur. It is all envolved with what is known as Implied Warranty, if such a case where to occur in Maryland and involving a dealer, you would contact MVA since they liscence dealers. |

You should check that out carefully. Often, consumer law does not protect you as strongly when the repair is paid for by the manufacturer as a part of an "original" warranty. I'm not saying you're incorrect, but I have seen this treatment applied before.
As the repair is made as part of the originally contracted 4yr/50K warranty, there may not be any legal requirement for the warranty to be extended past that point regardless of the mileage of the repair. The original warranty document is very clear that coverage ends at a certain period. This of course does not apply to any repairs that you pay for.

John, I am searching my local goverment sites right now, but can not find the wriiten law.
The first thing I saw was in the Mercedes warranty booklet it states: `Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitations of incidental or consequential damages or limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations may not apply to you' I replied the way I did because there had been a local radio auto call in show (web site (www.motorminute.com) and this was a common question or problem. Not to tarnish any brands, but I seem to recall this problem occuring it seemd often at Ford dealerships. Anyway the host always mentioned implied warranties, and contacting either the states attorney general office or MVA (not sure). I will e-mail my states attorney general office for an explanation, kind of fascinated. |

And I went and purchased a fifteen inch flat panel screen just so I could spot spelling
errors. |

Ethan:
You can click on the "edit" button on the bottom of your post and go back and correct spelling errors. You can also click on "edit" and delete your post as well, such as the one that says "license" after you correct the first one. Gilly

I am very curious now about your state! Canada has little consumer protection laws, and the ones we do have are rarely enforced. We have no lemon laws. Fraud is rarely prosecuted. Consumers are pretty much at the mercy of manufacturers here.
