windshield chip

Took a rock in the windshield, and have a nice divot (lower right--out of line-of-sight).

Has anyone tried one of the chip-repair kits from McParts? It looks like a tube of epoxy, maybe. Is it possible to get a decent repair without tons of finishing?

Thanks,

Might check your auto insurance coverage. It may be cover replacement of windshield.

I just took a hit on my *NON* MB last week.

Many insurance co's will pay for a small repair to prevent a crack from spreading completely. Otherwise it will cost the deductable to replace the windshield.

Check with you insurance co. first.

My experience is that regular auto glass shops will have someone trained in doing a professional epoxy chip repair. Not sure what you will find for a price, but I pay $50 and that is discounted somewhat.

I have one windshield with two or three repairs, I've lost count.

When repaired, even in the line of sight, it is much less noticable.

Off to the side like yours, you will forget about it quickly once repaired.

Strongly recommend the professional repair instead of the home kit.

windshield chip repair

I was in the chip repair business for several years. Most insurance companies will pay the entire cost of repairing the chip, and waive the deductible.

My advice is to stay away from the DIY repair kits; it takes an experienced hand to make an acceptable repair to a chip. Before you allow just anyone to attempt a repair, ask if they have to drill the windshield prior to the repair. There are some repair systems that do not require a hole be drilled in order to inject the repair resin, and they are the best.

The sooner you decide whether to repair or replace, the better. Even a week of driving, under normal conditions, will allow dirt, water, and all manner of contaminants to enter the laminate, and will reduce the chance of an acceptable repair.
