'89 300SE wire identification please
I just posted about me heat issue. While digging around, I found a loose wire that has broken off. Each lead has a single wire attached, so it looks like nothing is missing a wire....was one doubled up and the purple broke off? I am posting a picture. I searched, but didnt even know what to call this 'box'. It is above my fuse box. I have a solid purple wire. Can someone with the same car go see where this goes, or does anybody know? Thanks!!!

That is the connector for interior to the under hood connector.
Purple wires go to the starter circuit...

DL, my disc schematic shows a purple wire coming from the ignition "crank" position connector to pin #10 on the engine harness connector (your photo), then out to the idle speed control unit, which is under the passenger footwell.
I tried to get the lid off my '91 to look at it, but it strongly resisted, and I decided not to force it. I did see the purple wire coming in the lower bundle, and a similar wire exiting into the top bundle. I also have a paper schematic of an '86, which shows no additional wires connected thru pin #10, but your photo seems to show all 14 pins connected? I assume the purple wire sets the idle speed control during engine cranking, adding more air to aid starting? I guess if it were disconnedted, symptoms might be slow starting when warm? If the loose purple wire comes from the car interior, you might attach a voltmeter, turn the switch to start and see if you get voltage? Of course, when dealing with these hard-to-decipher schematic discs, the usual disclaimers apply - ha. Hope this helps. DG |

First, THANK YOU!! I found what looks like a broken solder joint on a pin with the solid brown wire. I checked this with a magnifying glass. It is the only pin in there that looks like it had a wire attached. If this is infact true, that brown wire leaves the box and goes to chassis ground right behind the box. I have been fighting a restart issue, just changed fuel accumulator and its better. This purple wire might be that issue also! |
