W211 Existence of venting flaps in the rear
Hi everybody,
Before I had my new W211 (420 CDI-2008), I used to drive a W124 (260E-1988) which used to have venting flaps in the back in the fender zone. Now I have this W211, Can some one tell me whether this model has venting flaps as it was the case for the 260E? I found sometimes there is a lot of humidity which may bring problems on the various CAN. Thanks for the replies Regards

The vents are located behind the bumper cover at the rear quarter panels. They don't open unless there's a sudden increase in cabin pressure, like when you shut the door. If you've got a moisture issue, like severely fogging windows when the car is parked, you may have water getting in. Check under the front carpets for any signs of wetness.

thank you very much ILUVMILS fir this quick reply.
This is exactly what I am suffering from especially under very cold wheather conditions:"" There is indeed a moisture issue, like severely fogging windows when the car is parked, you may have water getting in." Once it has induced SEVERE ERROR messages o multiplexing system (Battery, EBV, ESP, ABS, etc...) on the display and the car had to be towed to the dealer They spent 6 hours for investigations including computers resettings (???) and solve the problem. I am also suspecting the trunk tho not be water tight on the gasket side. i have to find out Regards

open up a door and pour some water (low pressure high volume) on the window from outside, inspect that ALL water is exiting from the door drains and not the interior panelling. If it is then inspect the vapor barriers. My W124 had the foggy issue sometimes, found out that the RR and FL door barriers were torn. New ones cut from 6 mil plastic solved the problem.
My car also was suffering from missing rubber plugs in the rear wheelhouse causing a flood of water sometimes.
