.I see my bracket is a bit different but looks like I can make it work. The holes on my car on that sheetmetal mounting area do not line up. Are there rubber shocks or other shock material around/with the mounting bolts?, and the wires , come from the side or the bottom, I will have to make a hole in the fender sound proofing ( grey) material

Here's a picture I found on e-bay of the backside of the bracket. There are 2 small rubber snubbers at the bottom. This is the listing for the bracket they have for sale. If you use this type bracket, there are no modifications of any kind needed to the car.

If you have it, check your maintenance booklet...the last page should have a paper "data card" which will have VIN, engine #, Trans #, etc. Attached is a copy of it and the explanation.

Starting around 1994 (with the W202) those data cards are not in the maintenance booklet.

The engine number is on the transmission mounting flange (where the bell housing attaches), passenger side, about 10-11 o'clock (as viewed from the front). It isn't stamped in; it looks like a dot-matrix etching. It should start with 112.

hmm, I wonder if MB would give it to me if I contacted them?

vince 03-03-2013 08:05 PM

A dealer parts department should be able to give it to you as long as you give them the VIN and can prove ownership, i.e. registration, title or such.

OK , thanks, BTW got the CD hooked up and working, had to adapt the mounting bracket but all is good

is there any way to bypas/turnoff the radio auto volume adjust ? I cant find a way to do it?

meltedpanda 03-05-2013 09:26 PM

not sure I understand my gas guage either. Filled up took a few miles for it to go to the full mark, ( i dont think it ever got to the full line) drove 55 or so miles and now at 1/4 3/4 tank.
With a 21 gal tank using 5 gallons or so to go 55 miles. either I did not really fill up or gas guage is inaccurate?
thoughts?

vince 03-06-2013 06:54 AM

Your gas gauge is not functioning correctly. I have had this very problem on two post facelift W202 cars and my E430. It went away after a few weeks in my case and has not returned but that doesn't mean you will have the same experience. I didn't get a chance to troubleshoot it before it cleared up but I suspect it is the contacts in the sending unit.

meltedpanda 03-06-2013 11:10 AM

yea , at first it did not budge and then turned car off , turned back on and it shot up
Now the car had been sitting for awhile so I am hoping that the gas sloshing about may take care of it ...not sure .
I would suspect the gas sending unit is in the tank correct :(
if it is - not ready for that adventure :)

Yeah, that "feature" always annoyed the heck out of me on my 210 as well. I've heard you can snip the speed sensor wire running to the radio to disable it, but I never chased it down an attempted the "repair." The good news is it's fixed on the 211 cars...

Post or PM me your VIN and I'll log into EPC and pull a data card for the car. That will have the engine and transmission number along with the color codes, build options, etc.

meltedpanda 03-06-2013 07:21 PM

thanks , but I was able to get the build sheet!
BTW put on a new set of tires today - Toyo Veranza II Touring , and I am amazed at the difference. All that noise I was concerned about - gone ...love it
