I've recently inherited my first Mercedes, a '79 240D and I want to upgrade the stock lighting. I've already replaced the stock 7-inch sealed-beam headlights with a pair of E-code Hella's with 55/65 watt H4 bulbs and I'm very happy with the results. The stock foglamps though are almost useless and I'm now thinking of replacing them with a second set of headlights, using a pair of 5.75-inch diameter E-code Hella low-beams intended for a 4-light system, also with 55/65 H4 bulbs and then adding a set of Hella or Bosch rectangular fog-lights under the bumper. I plan to put the second set of headlights on their own separate, dedicated circuit with a circuit-breaker, relay and a 3-postion (up for "high", down for "low" and center for "off" toggle switch and then, use the stock fog-light switch to operate the new 'under-the bumper' fog-lights. Has anybody done this - ie - replaced the stock fog-lamps with a pair of 5.75-inch H4 headlights? Any pros, cons or tips? Thanks in advance.
