15 at hot idle is normal. Yer just used to all the "blow-by" from them smokers keeping the pressure high in the crankcase!

LOL you got that right. It is MUCH lower than either my 240D or 300D ever were.

I forgot to pull the 280E back inside the garage last night... at least the window was closed.

Today I finally got around to replacing the ignition tumbler on the car. It had been sticking lately and I gave up on finding a key blank. I ended up using a part from ebay since it was only around $30 shipped. The classic center wanted $350 for a tumbler matched to the VIN so for $320 I think I can live with two keys.

One last update on this car... I sold it in January 2014 when I bought my 87 300E and ran into the car this morning while I was looking for a few odds and ends for my 400E.
