The older M104 had that rubber bushing tensioner that always went out. Looks like your S500 has the updated metal spring tensioner.

The tensioner on my M112 looks similar. Put a wrench on the torx fitting of the tensioner and turn CCW with one hand, slip belt off of a pulley with other hand, and then slowly let the wrench turn CW until tension is gone.
