Transmissions slipping, need advice PLEASE!

This 99 Mitsubishi Galant is on her last leg. She overheats when idling, rotors are squeeking and recently the tranny has been shifting different. I cant afford a new car seeing how I got this one out of my recent divorce, and thats all I got. Anyone who knows how I can just make her last as long as possible let me know. my ex was driving this car and there has been absolutely no maintenance done on it in awhile. I pretty much am wondering if the trans x additive I got is safe or if that may lead to a potentially bigger problem. any advice would be much appreciated and needed. my email is joshrupnow@yahoo.com in case I am not on here. Thank you!
