2002 SLK280 Diaphragm Travel Sensor

I hooked up my star scan tool due to an intermittent BAS/ABS light problem. I have code C1204, BAS diaphragm travel sensor short circuit to ground. I removed the sensor and hooked up my ohm meter to two of the 3 prongs and the resistance changes from 3 to .26 when I retract the plunger. I'm not sure if "short circuit to ground" is a problem with the wiring/ecu or if it is in fact a problem with the sensor..? I'm also not sure if the resistance I measured is out of range, or even meaningful since I took the reading outside of the car. I looked up on All-Date and reads "Ignition off ECM disconnected measure to pin 2.5<5 ohm". I'm hesitant to order a new sensor without being 100% sure I need it, since the price of the sensor is north of $200.

The code means either the sensor is defective or wiring to the sensor is at fault.
