CEL WILL NOT ILLUMINATE or COMMUNICATE

1996 E320 CEL will not illuminate. When scanner is plugged in, there is no communication between the vehicle and the scanner. I also notice that the cruise control does not work, and the car idles really high...up to 1200 RPM. I have checked all the vacuum and I don't see any problem. I have replaced the crankshaft sensor, and many other related parts. I do not want to continue replacing stuff until I am able to scan for codes. I will appreciate any help.

most scanners need a adapter to use the port in engine area. You might try cleaning your Mass air flow sensor.

Check fuses on passenger side by modules in engine bay. I had somewhat same problem on my 98 E320 scanner would't communicate the fuse was blown but CEL would light up. Hope this helps you out.

Take a pic with your fone of the OBDii port up under the dash and compare pin locations to your scanners plug, guessing they are not the same.......

Thanks guys for your advice. I am actually planning on buying a new MAF sensor, and see if it will solve the problem. I have not check the fuse on the pass side yet, but I will. I will be sure to post the results. By the way oldsinner11, where can I get the Snap On code reader from?
