I'm getting a 705 error code, 2003 C320 tranny stopped shifting. Is this the shift lever?

Sounds like your car is in 'limp home' mode. The purpose is to reduce the chance of further damage until you can do analysis and repairs. A single code isn't usually enough to complete determine the problem. Two somewhat common problems are - damage to the electronic controller on top the the transmission (did anyone spill liquids on the console) and o-ring/conductor plate issues.
